Three COMPASS investigators named Applied Public Health Research Chairs

  • COMPASS Principal Investigator, Dr. Scott Leatherdale, and two COMPASS research collaborators, Dr. David Hammond and Dr. Guy Faulkner, were awarded prestigious Applied Public Health Research Chairs by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research and the Public Health Agency of Canada. Only 12 such Research Chairs, which are awarded only once every five years, were awarded in all of Canada.

COMPASS Schools awarded the Healthy Eating in Secondary Schools Grant through the Ontario Ministry of Education

  • Congratulations to Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School! The Kingston based school received $25,000 and is setting plans in motion to begin "The Amazing Vegetable and Fruit Race-Holy Cross Style!"

  • Congratulations to John Paul II Catholic Secondary School! The London based school will be using the awarded $50,000 to begin "Creating an Urban Garden" at their school.

COMPASS Schools awarded the Physical Activity in Secondary Schools Grant through the Ontario Ministry of Education

  • Congratulations to Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School! The Kingston based school received $12,000 to convert what used to be a smoking area into new basketball courts for the school and surrounding community.

  • Congratulations to Central Huron Secondary School! The Clinton based school received $20,000 to upgrade their fitness room and purchase more physical activity equipment.

  • Congratulations to Dryden High School! The Dryden based school received $50,000 to build a yoga studio/calming space for their students.

  • Congratulations to Atikokan High School! The Atikokan based school received $20,000 to build a new fitness facility.

  • Congratulations to Brockville Collegiate Institute! The Brockville based school received $20,000 to launch the "Move to Activ8" program.

  • Congratulations to Nicholson Catholic College! The Belleville based school received $20,000 to launch spin classes, yoga, and a pedometer challenge.
